More Mac resellers have joined those holding special events to mark this weekend’s launch of Mac OS X (“Jaguar”). Apple has already announced that it’s retail stores will host “100 minutes of Jaguar” this weekend.
MacAuthority of Nashville, Tennessee, is holding a Midnight Madness event tonight. Mac users can join fellow enthusiasts at the MacAuthority at 9 p.m. for the special event. The store, located at 2018 Lindell Avenue, will put the new operating system on sale at 10:20 p.m.
“This event is primarily organized as a social and informational gathering of MacAuthority customers, as well as any member of the Mac community,” said Lucas Leverett, art and promotions director for MacAuthority. “Activities will include music, free hot dogs and drinks all evening, special pricing on select items, demonstrations of the new technologies of Jaguar, a demonstration of Apple’s suite of Internet Services (.Mac) and prize drawings.”
Prizes to be awarded to those in attendance include a copy of Jaguar, dinner at Rainforest Café, tickets to the Nashville Zoo, computer peripherals, Jaguar posters, t-shirts, coffee mugs and special US$10 discount coupons for use on immediate purchases of Jaguar. For more information, including an event schedule, go to the MacAuthority Web site.
Also this Friday MacOutfitters will have events at their locations in of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and Cranberry, Pennsylvania, and Computer Forum of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, will offer a special event for the release of Mac OS X 10.2 in cooperation with local Macintosh User Groups and The Mid-Atlantic Macintosh User Groups Team.
The in-store events will take place at each location with ongoing demos of Jaguar on every machine along with special prizes, raffles, music and refreshments. A Jaguar costume contest will be held with the winner receiving a copy of the new operating system. Festivities start at 8:00 pm and each store will have Jaguar on sale at 10:20 pm.
One of the most interesting promotional events is at the Mac Station of Vancouver, Canada, which will have a real live jaguar (the animal) on hand Saturday morning.
The launch of Mac OS X 10.2 coincides with the grand re-opening celebration of Mac Station’s downtown Vancouver location, which is now a 4,000 ft2 retail facility. It’s designed in the spirit of the US Apple retail stores, and features wood-grain display centers and soft halogen lighting that you would expect to see in a high-end furniture store, according to Jason Belsey of Mac Station.
The store will have several specials and will be providing a catered lunch on Saturday and in-store demonstrations of Mac OS X 10.2. Their Jaguar festivities will start at 10 am (PDT) at 1109 Homer Street.
